Greek Hospitals Suffer In Ailing Economy

Posted on December 9th, 2012 at 20:22 by John Sinteur in category: Robber Barons

The economic crisis in Greece is strangling the country’s hospitals, where budgets have been slashed by more than half. As a result, nearly all doctors in both public and private hospitals have seen their pay cut, delayed or even frozen.

“On top of that, we lack basic supplies to do our jobs,” says Vangelis Papamichalis, a neurologist at the Regional Hospital of Serres in northern Greece and a member of the doctors union here. “We run out of surgical gloves, syringes, vials for blood samples and needles to sew stitches, among other things.”

Last week, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said these shortages will contribute to hospital-acquired infection rates in Greece, which are already among the worst in Europe.

  1. Why are we not surprised? Fox (Rupert Murdock) has a penchant to twist the “news” to fit their preconceived notions, to an extreme that even George Orwell (1984) would take umbrage at! Talk about NewSpeak! Or is that News Speak?

Software guru McAfee wants to return to U.S.

U.S. software guru John McAfee, fighting deportation from Guatemala to Belize to face questions about the slaying of a neighbor, said on Saturday he wants to return to the United States.

“My goal is to get back to America as soon as possible,” McAfee, 67, said in a phone call to Reuters from the immigration facility where he is being held for illegally crossing the border to Guatemala with his 20-year-old girlfriend.

I bet he now wishes he had been paying his taxes instead of avoiding them.

Italian prime minister plans to resign

Posted on December 9th, 2012 at 2:57 by Sueyourdeveloper in category: News

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti has announced he would resign once next year’s budget is approved, saying he can no longer govern after Silvio Berlusconi’s party withdrew its parliamentary support for his technocrat government.

Hours earlier on Saturday, former Prime Minister Berlusconi, who was forced to resign last year amid a sex scandal and a debt crisis, said he will run for office again next year.

Clearly a move that will be welcomed by Italian prostitutes and comedy around the world. Bondholders might be a little more worried.
