Church’s clinic shielded paedophiles

Posted on November 22nd, 2012 at 16:59 by John Sinteur in category: Intellectual Property

Whistleblowers closely involved with the now-defunct Encompass Australasia program allege paedophile clergy were diagnosed with a ”mood disorder” so they could be treated at Sydney’s Wesley Private Hospital and meet private health insurance criteria.

A well-placed source aware of the status of some clergy treated by Encompass Australasia between 1997 and 2008 said he believed several did not have a mood disorder but were ”cold and calculating criminals” who bragged about their exploits with children to others while at the hospital.

”Some of these people were not mentally ill, in my opinion. They were criminals who knew exactly what they had done and were proud of their achievements,” said the source, who asked not to be named for fear of being sacked. ”People who should have been in Long Bay Jail were still living in the community.”

Police Raid 9-Year-Old Pirate Bay Girl, Confiscate Winnie The Pooh Laptop

Posted on November 22nd, 2012 at 14:04 by John Sinteur in category: Intellectual Property

An anti-piracy company has found itself in the middle of a huge controversy. CIAPC, the company that had The Pirate Bay blocked by ISPs in Finland, tracked an alleged file-sharer and demanded a cash settlement. However, the Internet account holder refused to pay which escalated things to an unprecedented level. In response, this week police raided the home of the 9-year-old suspect and confiscated her Winnie the Pooh laptop.

  1. What’s the name of that internet thing where you can’t distinguish reality and an Onion article?

  2. Incredible as fiction often is, it alywas comes from our imagination, which is mostly a mix of true events into something very similar. It is a diluted version of reality. If you want to be truly amazed, look around you carefully, and you will see things you could not possibly have imagined to be real. The fact that a Winnie the Pooh laptop raid is truly outrageous, made me not even checking it was Onion work.

DEKATRON reborn: Full details on World’s Oldest Digital Computer

Posted on November 22nd, 2012 at 12:27 by John Sinteur in category: News

The world’s oldest working digital computer was rebooted on Tuesday following a painstaking three-year refurbishment. The slow-but-steady machine will now be used to educate school-age programmers.

The Harwell Dekatron – AKA The WITCH Computer – crunched its first calculations 61 years ago and was used to build Britain’s first nuclear reactors. It has been restored by The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) at Bletchley Park.

At an unveiling ceremony following the rebuild work, one of the Dekatron’s early users Bart Fosey, 85, raced the machine using a modern hand-calculator to see which completed its task first. The race was declared a draw.

  1. …was rebooted on Tuesday…

Shortly after reboot, it demanded to update its 60 year old Flash Player plugin, and then quickly bluescreened.
