Pope Benedict’s Custom Made Cologne

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 23:56 by John Sinteur in category: Pastafarian News

Italian celebrity perfume-maker Silvana Casoli, has created her most heavenly scent yet for a very special client, Pope Benedict XVI.

Known for creating a number of perfumes that can be used by both men and women with names like Chocolat Bambola (Chocolate doll) and Vanilla Bourbon, Casoli has designed unique fragrances for famous personalities like Madonna and Sting.

Speaking to Rome’s daily paper, Il Messaggero, Casoli said that the name of the pope’s specially-commissioned scent is top secret and she is not allowed to divulge all its ingredients. She did, however, reveal that she was inspired by the pope’s love of “nature” and used a blend of fragrances from lime-wood, verbena and grass.

In addition, there will be some stench of corruption, more than a pinch of hypocrisy, and the smell of young boys.

Abortion Causes Breast Cancer, New Hampshire House Declares

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 22:50 by John Sinteur in category: News

New Hampshire’s Tea Party-controlled House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would mandate a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion and require doctors to tell women that abortion causes breast cancer.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Jeanine Notter (R-Merrimack), was immediately condemned by Democratic leaders, who it would require false information to be spread by doctors to patients. There is no proven breast cancer link to abortion, according to the World Health Organization and the American Cancer Society.

Notter could not be reached for comment Wednesday, but has said in the past she believes there is an abortion-cancer connection.

And, as we saw with Santorum, if she believes in her heart that there is an abortion-cancer connection….

  1. There is no scientific evidence linking abortion and cancer. There is ample evidence, though, of a link between stupidity and anti-abortion sentiment.

‘A Large Number’ Of Megaupload Accounts Belong To US Government Officials

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 21:34 by Paul Jay in category: News

Recently released from prison, Kim Dotcom revealed that many Megaupload accounts belong to members of the US government, reports Torrent Freak.

The file hosting service was disabled due to suspected copyright infringement in a huge raid that separated users from their uploaded files, personal and professional, regardless of if they were infringing or not.

Megaupload has been investigating options to reunite users with their data, even if only temporarily. This led to an interesting discovery that Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom explained:

“We found a large number of [Megaupload] accounts from US government officials including the Department of Justice and the US Senate…I hope we will soon have permission to give them and the rest of our users access to their files.”

News on how to retrieve lost files is expected in about a week.

DOJ Asks Court to Keep Secret Any Partnership Between Google, NSA

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 21:31 by Paul Jay in category: News

The Justice Department is defending the government’s refusal to discuss — or even acknowledge the existence of — any cooperative research and development agreement between Google and the National Security Agency.

The Washington, D.C., based advocacy group Electronic Privacy Information Center sued in federal district court here to obtain documents about any such agreement between the internet search giant and the security agency.

The NSA responded to the suit with a so-called “Glomar” response in which the agency said it could neither confirm nor deny whether any responsive records exist. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon in Washington sided with the government last July.

Darpa Director Bolts Pentagon for Google

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 21:27 by Paul Jay in category: News

Darpa director Regina Dugan will soon be stepping down from her position atop the Pentagon’s premiere research shop to take a job with Google. Dugan, whose controversial tenure at the agency lasted just under three years, was “offered and accepted at senior executive position” with the internet giant, according to Darpa spokesman Eric Mazzacone. She felt she couldn’t say no to such an “innovative company,” he adds.

Dugan’s emphasis on cybersecurity and next-generation manufacturing earned her strong support from the White House, winning her praise from the President and maintaining the agency’s budget even during a period of relative austerity at the Pentagon. Her push into crowdsourcing and outreach to the hacker community were eye-openers in the often-closed world of military R&D. Dugan also won over some military commanders by diverting some of her research cash from long-term, blue-sky projects to immediate battlefield concerns.

“There is a time and a place for daydreaming. But it is not at Darpa,” she told a congressional panel in March 2011 (.pdf). “Darpa is not the place of dreamlike musings or fantasies, not a place for self-indulging in wishes and hopes. Darpa is a place of doing.” For an agency that spent millions of dollars on shape-shifting robots, Mach 20 missiles, and mind-controlled limbs, it was something of a revolutionary statement.

Unbelievably Stupid Law Would Declare Single Parenthood Child Abuse

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 17:41 by John Sinteur in category: News

Senate Bill 507 is sponsored by Republican Senator Glenn Grothman of West Bend. If passed into law, SB507 would formally consider single parenthood a contributing factor to child abuse. Since most single parents are women, it doesn’t take a Vince Lombardi to see that the game plan here is to inch toward criminalizing a woman’s state of nonmarriage.

Ugandan Gay Rights Group Sues Scott Lively, a U.S. Evangelist

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 17:15 by John Sinteur in category: Pastafarian News

A Ugandan gay rights group filed suit against an American evangelist, Scott Lively, in federal court in Massachusetts on Wednesday, accusing him of violating international law by inciting the persecution of gay men and lesbians in Uganda.

The lawsuit maintains that beginning in 2002, Mr. Lively conspired with religious and political leaders in Uganda to whip up anti-gay hysteria with warnings that gay people would sodomize African children and corrupt their culture.

Reached by telephone in Springfield, Mass., where he runs Holy Grounds Coffee House, a storefront mission and shop, Mr. Lively said he did not know about the lawsuit. Nevertheless, he said: “That’s about as ridiculous as it gets. I’ve never done anything in Uganda except preach the Gospel and speak my opinion about the homosexual issue.”

I take that as an admission, then.

Goldman Roiled by Op-Ed Loses $2.2B for Shareholders

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) saw $2.15 billion of its market value wiped out after an employee assailed Chief Executive Officer Lloyd C. Blankfein’s management and the firm’s treatment of clients, sparking debate across Wall Street.

The shares dropped 3.4 percent in New York trading yesterday, the third-biggest decline in the 81-company Standard & Poor’s 500 Financials Index, after London-based Greg Smith made the accusations in a New York Times op-ed piece.

  1. Schadenfreude!

  2. Sadly, it’s just hype.

    After looking a little closer…
    GS went up 2.7% today.
    The financial sector’s up 1.2%

    Over the last 5 days:
    The DOW rose 2 1/2 %
    GS is up 4 1/2 %

  3. Given that GS has been in the news for being ruthlessly profit-focused, I wouldn’t expect the stock to go down too much.

Santorum to Puerto Rico: Speak English if you want statehood

Posted on March 15th, 2012 at 15:38 by John Sinteur in category: Indecision 2012

n an interview with El Vocero newspaper, Santorum said he supported Puerto Ricans’ right to self-determination regarding the island’s political status.

“We need to work together and determine what type of relationship we want to develop,” he told the newspaper.

But Santorum said he did not support a state in which English was not the primary language.

“Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law,” Santorum said. “And that is that English has to be the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal language.”

However, the U.S. Constitution does not designate an official language, nor is there a requirement that a territory adopt English as its primary language in order to become a state.

And Santorum bloody well knows that – he’s pandering to the people at home…
