Breaking: Condi Rice Spends Salary on Shoes

[Quote:]

According to Drudge, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has recently enjoyed a little Broadway entertainment. And Page Six reports that she’s also working on her backhand with Monica Seles. So the Gulf Coast has gone all Mad Max, women are being raped in the Superdome, and Rice is enjoying a brief vacation in New York. We wish we were surprised.

What does surprise us: Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman.

  1. As much as I dislike Condi, I still think she’s well within her rights to buy excessively expensive shoes out of her own pocket. Discouragement should be via “name & shame”, not via verbal harassment.

I can’t blame her for having security around & use it, if that’s what it takes to do undisturbed shopping.

  2. Come on, what’s with this “Everyone has to sit home and mope until the water recedes” bullshit? Yes, it’s tragic. Yes, Condi has awful judgment

  3. Condi has “awful judgement”. That’s an understatement.

She’s bloody number 4 in line for the presidency. She’s Secretary of State – and while numerous countries are trying to reach her in that function because they want to help the people in NO (such as the canadian DART group, and the dutch experts), she’s off buying shoes and p[aying tennis with a celebrity? That’s not just “awful judgement”, that’s fucking dereliction of duty at an impeachable level. “Awful judgement” would be wearing white after labor day, this is quite a bit more than that. Of course people don’t “have to sit home and mope until the water recedes”, all I’m asking is for her to do her fucking job.

  4. Three people have to die before she’s President. She’s secretary of state, not director of a relief agency. And she hasn’t been doing her job for several years now.

  5. I think this is sad:

President Bush, facing blistering criticism for his administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina, said today “the results are not acceptable” and pledged to bolster relief efforts with a personal trip to the Gulf Coast. [Link]

As if taking a helicopter tour of the city helps anything. Why don’t you send that helicopter to rescue some people?

  6. Too little, too late. Well, it takes time to react… “it’s hard work!” remember? My guess he was busy reading volume II of My Pet Goat.

  7. All of you short sighted jerks are blaming President Bush for his short-sightedness in organizing relief efforts in New Orleans after Katrina made landfall. Ask the Mayor of New Orleans what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars that was suppossed to be spent on new dikes, levees, and pumps in the last ten years. New equipment that was never purchased or installed that would have prevented the devasting flood waters. John Sinteur, my guess is you were probabley yanking off at seven ten on the morning of 8/29 so it’s your fault that the young black woman that had her head split open in the 130 mph wind by a flying two by four got killed. SEE HOW REDICULOUS ALL THIS BLAME AND SHAME CAN BECOME. Get a life and send a few bucks to the reliefe effort.

  8. All of you short sighted jerks are blaming President Bush for his short-sightedness in organizing relief efforts in New Orleans after Katrina made landfall.

Does the phrase “the buck stops here” mean anything to you? Oh, and why are you defending just Bush? The posting you’re commenting on is about Rice, and Rice only. In fact, I’ve been blaming a lot of incompentent assholes the last week – take this for example: http://weblog.sinteur.com/?p=10522 Your obsession with defending Bush doesn’t make much sense to me.

Ask the Mayor of New Orleans what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars that was suppossed to be spent on new dikes, levees, and pumps in the last ten years. New equipment that was never purchased or installed that would have prevented the devasting flood waters.

Do you mean the funding that he didn’t spend because it was cut? If you have other information, please send me the links. If you can show me he misappropiated funds, I’ll rip him a new one, he would deserve to be shown an asshole. However, I haven’t seen any article at all describing what you suggest. Please prove me wrong, and send me the links.

John Sinteur, my guess is you were probabley yanking off at seven ten on the morning of 8/29

Typical. Attack the messenger, not the message. That may work in your neighbourhood, but over here it suggests that the message, if it provokes that strong a reaction, is actually true. You haven’t given a single piece of information that supports your position – I’d be happy to post any you have – and if all you can do is attack me, you’re position doesn’t look all that strong to me.

Get a life and send a few bucks to the reliefe effort.

I did, but the way the White House has been snubbing international help I wonder if it ever reaches the victims.

  9. Ok Steve, let’s ask Louisiana officials what happended: Walter Maestri, the head of emergency management of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana said that of the $15 million requested “it appears that the money has been moved from the president’s budget to handle homeland security and the War in Iraq. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can’t be finished and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us.? Also in June 2004, the Corps’ project manager, Al Naomi, went before the East Jefferson Levee Authority and urgently requested $2 million, which the federal government had denied. “The system is in great shape, but the levees are sinking. If we don’t get the money fast enough to raise them, then we can’t stay ahead of the settlement,? Naomi said. “The problem is the federal funds have dried up.? Before mindlessly gulping down the Rove line, I respectfully advise you to use eyes and brain and educate yourself. Here is the link to this quote Known Problems Led To Disaster in New Orleans and here is another one Catastrophe was predicted – and ignored. There are hundreds more.

  10. You guys are talking about reliefe money or Federal Funding, what about all the local tax dollars from the Casino money that was suppossed to be used for the levee and pump projects. Doesn’t charity began at home? Would you be as quick to blame The President if he were Mr. Clinton? The delay in federal help no doubt would have been longer if Ms. Lewinski had been there. “We will catch and prosecute the COLE bombers. HA HA HA. All you liberals want is more tax dollars to give to the people that have’t lifted a finger to help themselves since I was 10years old and that was some 60 years ago. Don’t bother writing back, my blood pressure can’t stand it. Steve

  11. You guys are talking about reliefe money or Federal Funding, what about all the local tax dollars from the Casino money that was suppossed to be used for the levee and pump projects.

There didn’t magically appear more money from tax from the casinos once the federal government cut their part of the budget. Should they have raised taxes when that happened?

Would you be as quick to blame The President if he were Mr. Clinton?

Absolutely. And we’d definately be writing things like “he must have been too occupied with Monica’s vagina”. You see, I’m not a US citizen, and neither party holds any attraction to me. Incompetence doesn’t change with party color.

But you see, this is the Monica Lewinksi event of George Bush. Like Bill fucked up with Monica, George fucked up with Katrina. Execpt with Monica, there weren’t 20,000 people stuck in her vagina afterwards with no way out.

  12. Steve,

    Are you a racist?

    When you write:
    > All you liberals want is more tax dollars to give to the people that havet lifted a finger to help
    > themselves since I was 10years old and that was some 60 years ago.
    it sounds very racist.

Just in case you are not a racist, let me tell you: Most people live on the flipside of the American dream.
The flipside is where all the loosers are. “If they really wanted to be successfull, they could be, and since they are not, they are not willing.”

But it is basic math: If there are 200.000 paperboys in America, and 7 paper tycoon, it is clear that not
all paperboys can become a paper tycoon.

It might be a liberal tought, but I think an administration should protect each and every citizen against things like this, not just the ones that liveup to the American Dream like, no doubt, you have.
